In short
- Open your speed skating competition from ‘Competitions’ and choose ‘Build your squad’.
- Fill every slot per gender and tier, choose a captain and predict the season winners.
- Choose ‘Submit squad’ before the deadline: a draft does not count.
The screenshots show a fictional example competition with randomly chosen skaters. The numbers per tier, points and deadlines can differ per competition; check ‘Rules’ in your own competition.
Before you start
You must join the competition first. You build your squad separately afterwards. The competition page shows when entries close, usually just before the first World Cup starts. Also read the rules through the ‘Rules’ button: they explain how skaters score points.
Open the squad builder
Sign in and choose ‘Competitions’ at the top. Open your speed skating competition and choose ‘Build your squad’. Below the deadline you can see how many slots you have filled. Further down the page, ‘Squad status’ shows the same with a ‘Build’ link, or ‘Edit’ once you have submitted.
Choose your skaters
Above the line-up you can see how many skaters to choose per gender and per tier, for example 2 A + 3 B + 3 C regulars plus 3 reserves. Tap an open slot. A list appears on the right, or at the bottom on your phone, with only the skaters that fit that slot: the same gender and the same tier. Search by name if you like and tap a skater. Sporila then moves on to the next open slot. To swap someone, tap their slot and choose another skater. You cannot pick a skater who is already in your squad.
What are reserves for?
Your regular skaters score points. A reserve steps in when a regular from your squad does not start a race. So for the reserve slots, also choose skaters who will race all season. After a World Cup, your squad shows whether a reserve was on standby or substituted.
Choose your captain
Under ‘Captain’, choose one of your regular skaters. The captain scores extra points during the first World Cup; the explanation above the list says how many. Tap again to undo your choice. If you remove your captain from the squad, choose again. You choose a new captain for each following World Cup; see ‘After the deadline’.
Predict the season winners
Under ‘Season predictions’, choose for each distance who leads the points standing after the final World Cup, for men and women. You may choose any skater, even one outside your squad. Each correct prediction scores the points shown in the explanation.
Submit your squad
The bar at the top of the page shows which parts are not finished yet. Only when everything is complete can you press ‘Submit squad’. While you choose, Sporila automatically saves your choices as a draft, so you can continue later or on another device. A draft does not count: only a submitted squad scores points. After submitting you will see ‘Last submitted’ with the date and time. Until the deadline you can change and resubmit your squad as often as you like.
After the deadline
After the deadline your squad is fixed and your predictions are final. For each following World Cup, the squad page shows ‘Weekend choices’ with its own deadline. There you choose your captain for that World Cup; the same skater can only be captain a limited number of times. You can also make a transfer there: you swap a skater for another from the same tier. The number of transfers per gender is limited. Points the outgoing skater already scored remain. The new skater scores from that World Cup onwards.

Open your competition from ‘Competitions’ and choose ‘Build your squad’. Submit your squad before the deadline shown on the competition page.

The ‘Submit squad’ button is grey
Your squad is not complete yet. Check the bar at the top to see which parts are unfinished: regulars, reserves, captain or predictions. A completed part is highlighted.
I cannot choose a skater
The list only shows skaters of the gender and tier of the slot you selected. If you are looking for someone in another tier, select a slot in that tier first. A greyed-out skater is already in your squad.
I cannot see the squad builder
Check that you have joined the competition. If an entry fee applies, the squad builder opens once the organizer has processed your payment. Otherwise, contact your organizer.
My draft changed on another device
Sporila tells you and overwrites nothing. Choose ‘Load server version’ to continue with the other device, or ‘Keep my visible choices’ to keep what you see now.
‘Server save is currently unavailable’
Your device keeps your changes temporarily. Check your internet connection; Sporila tries again when you make your next change. Remember to submit your squad afterwards.
The deadline has passed and I did not submit
After the deadline you can no longer submit a squad and you will not score points. Contact your organizer if you think something went wrong.
